Biography
Troy has been making saddles since 1997. After working for renowned saddle maker Eddy Powell for 3 years.
Troy has grown up in the horse industry as a kid riding and mustering for local properties. Then started breaking in horses most of my school years & after finishing school.
Troy has competed as a rodeo rider mainly as a bronc rider, competing internationally in USA, Canada, New Zealand & Australia. Winning numerous national titles and rodeos.
Through the years Troy has trained and worked in the film & entertainment industry i.e.:
• 2002 Man from Snowy River Arena Spectacular
• Doha Asian Games opening ceremonies in 2006
• Australian Outback spectacular
• Film & Television
Troy has built saddles and harnesses for some of these shows, in which he personally designed himself.
Troy has competed in camp drafts and cutting and also presented horses in horse sales.
These days Troy breeds and trains his own cutting & camp draft bred horses, he also competes when time permits.
The thing that sets Troy apart is he is a horseman & not just a saddle maker; he keeps a couple of horses in training. Riding in what I make is paramount for what I believe should be a good fitting saddle for me & my horses. A bad fitting saddle to your horse will cause problems and soreness.
My saddles are rigged either with full riggings or 7/8 inch position. Riggings that are set to far back towards centre of saddle tend to move saddle too far forward on horse over withers & scapula bone instead of the strong back muscles. The causing of the saddle to move, rock & crowd shoulder & interfering with the elbow/armpit area. I suggest that the 7/8 position works well even on straight shoulder horses.
People often overlook the importance of a good saddle pad. When people come to me to check saddle fit problems, the 3 most common problems are:
• The horses feet (shoeing or trim) which can affect their back
• Teeth also will affect how the carry themselves causing saddle fit problems
• The saddle fit to suit horse and rider
All of the things can make a happy horse and rider.
